Sometimes you get a surprising surprise in life, even when you are building a website.

My website is built with WordPress (an open system used by 75 million websites), and on top of that an “Avada” theme, which makes the entire management of such a website much easier so to speak).

In that environment you can upload thousands of “plug-ins” to improve or change certain aspects of your website, for example limiting the size of your images, or improving the loading speed of your website. For the latter I recently started using Autoptimize, the stuff is already used more than a million times throughout the world.

I had a little problem with it, asked for an explanation, got it by return mail, and in a click and a clack it was solved. Super. It turned out that the developer of that plug-in is a Flemish from Lokeren (Belgium).

Most of those plugins are free, but you can always make a small donation if you want, many little ones make a big one. I do that every now and then, but in this case I got the following surprising message:

Not that he is a Belgian artist who needs publicity, to the contrary, but Michael Borremans’ personality, humbleness and simply good manners make him an exception among the world’s most famous painters (at least in Belgium).

He has a fabulous painting technique, although for me personally some of his subjects are awkward or hard to interpret. Un grand Monsieur.

I am quite overdue to grant her the place here which she deserves already for a long, long time. La place d’honneur, indeed.

Who is she? Reine-Marie Pinchon, talented watercolorist, beloved teacher and admired friend.

His techniques, which continue to evolve each time, are breathtaking, whether it is the bark of trees, the water of the lakes, or the geisers of Yellowstone National Park.

To see, and to savor without moderation.

She is currently taking part in an virtual exhibition, excellent for the works, the artists, and for the technology.

It is always very pleasing to see ( and hear) which talents lurk around in my large family. Take Monique for example, who has already more than 30 years stage experience, with her enchanting music and performances. For a number of years now, she inspires and plays with her group O’Tchallai, focused on ethnic / Balkan/Gipsy/Sephardic/ Mediterranean music. The combination of accordeon and violin is really enchanting.

It was a lousy day. The Blue Mountains, a spectacular landscape on our Australian trip, were that day spectacularly grey. Fog, worhty of Good Old England, but Down Under and Overseas. In the midst of that misery, we found a Consolation Prize.

The Lost Bear Gallery in Katoomba, with a collection of artists worhty of any decent real-world city. Superb. Including such artists as watercolour genius Herman Pekel, and landscape painter Warwick Fuller. For the foreseeable future, our visits will be vitual, but that will not lessen the pleasure.

You obviously know all that stuff about the Internet, and virtual business, etc.

I respectfully disagree. When touring early 2015 through South Australia, I was looking for some special souvenirs.
Guess what, it starts with “W”.

So, I found George, and his Gorgeous collection of vintage Australian pen blanks. And, rather than going the virtual road, we arranged a face-to-face visit at his backyard shop in the neighbourhood of Mount Compass, close to Adelaide.

A feast for the eye, indulging on all the 82 wood species he collected with love and attention. Amaaazing ( that is truly Aussie) to see such an international business work in realtime.
