Not that he is a Belgian artist who needs publicity, to the contrary, but Michael Borremans’ personality, humbleness and simply good manners make him an exception among the world’s most famous painters (at least in Belgium).

He has a fabulous painting technique, although for me personally some of his subjects are awkward or hard to interpret. Un grand Monsieur.

Like a bridge over coloured water https://www.yesiwood.be/portfolio-items/bridge-coloured-water/ Mon, 11 Jan 2021 14:10:43 +0000 https://www.yesiwood.be/portfolio-items/elle-aquarelle/

I am quite overdue to grant her the place here which she deserves already for a long, long time. La place d’honneur, indeed.

Who is she? Reine-Marie Pinchon, talented watercolorist, beloved teacher and admired friend.

His techniques, which continue to evolve each time, are breathtaking, whether it is the bark of trees, the water of the lakes, or the geisers of Yellowstone National Park.

To see, and to savor without moderation.

She is currently taking part in an virtual exhibition, excellent for the works, the artists, and for the technology.

Worth the (virtual) trip! :

It is always very pleasing to see ( and hear) which talents lurk around in my large family. Take Monique for example, who has already more than 30 years stage experience, with her enchanting music and performances. For a number of years now, she inspires and plays with her group O’Tchallai, focused on ethnic / Balkan/Gipsy/Sephardic/ Mediterranean music. The combination of accordeon and violin is really enchanting.

Underseas https://www.yesiwood.be/portfolio-items/underseas/ Mon, 08 Jun 2015 07:08:29 +0000 https://www.yesiwood.be/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=8014 It was a lousy day. The Blue Mountains, a spectacular landscape on our Australian trip, were that day spectacularly grey. Fog, worhty of Good Old England, but Down Under and Overseas.  In the midst of that misery, we found a Consolation Prize.

The Lost Bear Gallery in Katoomba, with a collection of artists worhty of any decent real-world city. Superb. Including such artists as watercolour genius Herman Pekel, and landscape painter Warwick Fuller. For the foreseeable future, our visits will be vitual, but that will not lessen the pleasure.

There should be things in the world other than wood, or life might get boring.

Like music, especially if it is well played.

Ooh my god. A violin is also made of wood…

Fortunately, he is not alone anymore… Have a look at his InterContinental Ensemble:

Scenes from an Exhibition https://www.yesiwood.be/portfolio-items/scenes-from-an-exhibition/ Thu, 04 Dec 2014 11:58:39 +0000 https://www.yesiwood.be/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=7759

We ( Ana, Roos and I) had an exhibition in Albi (France)  in September 2014. For those amongst you (i.e. almost everyone), who could not make the long journey to Albi, you will find below a consolation prize, a short impression on YouTube how it looked.

The first movie is a quick guided tour of about five minutes:

The second movie includes some more stills, as well as some of the activities that took place – the opening, and the “Making Of”. This one runs for 12 minutes.

Enjoy the views!

I’m famous now!
I even grace the cover of a magazine!

Musée Toulouse-Lautrec, Albi (France) https://www.yesiwood.be/portfolio-items/musee-toulouse-lautrec-albi-france/ Thu, 27 Feb 2014 14:02:48 +0000 https://www.yesiwood.be/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=6544 When we first visited ten years ago the museum that houses the largest collection of Henri Toulouse-Lautrec’s paintings in the world, we thought “great, but what a pity that these works are shown in such a  depressed and neglected environment”.

Since 2013, Cinderella has joined the ballroom of the great museums of the world. Superb. Must see. Don’t miss the room with his contemporaries, some really nice stuff.
